GUIDE
How to export your route as a GPX file (Garmin, Strava, Wahoo & more)
By PBprint · 1 May 2026 · 5 min read
To turn your run, ride or hike into a Route Remnant, you need one thing: a GPX file of your activity. GPX is the universal format for GPS routes, and almost every platform can export one in a few taps. Here's how, platform by platform.
What is a GPX file?
A GPX (GPS Exchange Format) file holds the string of GPS points that make up your route. It's the standard every app understands. If your watch or app recorded your activity, you can almost always get a GPX out of it.
Strava
The quickest option if your activity is already on Strava.
- Open the activity on the Strava website (strava.com) — this works best on desktop.
- Click the three dots (···) under the map, on the right.
- Choose Export GPX. The file downloads to your computer.
You can only export your own activities, not someone else's.
Garmin Connect
- Go to connect.garmin.com and sign in (use the website, not the phone app).
- Open the activity you want.
- Click the gear icon (⚙️) in the top-right corner.
- Choose Export to GPX.
Wahoo
Wahoo rides sync to your linked accounts automatically.
- In the Wahoo app, open the activity and tap Share / Export, or
- If your Wahoo is connected to Strava, export it from Strava using the steps above.
Komoot
- Open the Tour on the Komoot website.
- Click the three dots (···) near the tour title.
- Select Export GPX (you may need to be signed in).
Coros
- In the COROS app, open the activity.
- Tap the three dots (···) in the top-right.
- Choose Export and select GPX.
Apple Watch
Apple's Fitness app doesn't export GPX directly. Use a free companion app such as HealthFit, RunGap or WorkOutDoors:
- Grant the app access to Apple Health.
- Open the workout in the app.
- Export / share it as GPX.
Polar
- Go to flow.polar.com and open the training session.
- Click the three dots (···) in the top-right.
- Choose Export session → GPX.
Suunto
- In the Suunto app, open the activity.
- Tap the three dots (···).
- Choose Export as GPX.
Zwift and indoor rides
Indoor activities save as a .FIT file and sync to Strava or Garmin. Export the GPX from whichever of those you've connected (steps above).
Only have a FIT or TCX file?
No problem — those are GPS files too. You can convert a FIT or TCX to GPX for free with a tool like GPSBabel or any online converter, then upload the GPX.
Got your GPX? You're ready.
Once you've downloaded your GPX file, head to the Route Remnant designer, drop it in, choose your colours, and preview your Remnant before you order. If you get stuck exporting, email us at hello@pbprint.au and we'll help.
